Waiting and Changing: God’s Timetable

The sunflowers, heavy with seeds, bend toward the ground; meanwhile, the orange and red leaves begin to morph into the glorious signs of autumn. Garrett County has what MSN.com calls the #1 Autumn Festival in the U.S. The date always occurs the second full weekend of October when locals hope the leaves will reach their peak! This year I hope we will have leaves left on the trees by October 12-14!

Ashley Moon received her marriage proposal from Jason Baker well over a year ago; they waited until September 22, 2012, to officially become Mr. and Mrs. Jason Baker. The wedding, beautiful and memorable, took months of planning and waiting.

Also in September, Dave and I took a course at the Discovery Center at Deep Creek Lake, learning how to use environmental games and adventures of Project WILD. After the class, as we prepared to come home, our neighbor, aided by one of the rangers, discovered this chrysalis. That shiny green, slipper-looking shape will remain attached to that fence post until spring. Eventually, a monarch butterfly will emerge.

And then there is that tiny miracle Bryan, Stacey and Kelsey waited nine months to meet.  On September 24, Tyler David emerged from the safe cocoon God designed in his Mommy. Somehow all these events came together to give me a better understanding of Isaiah 30:18. “Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him.”
